Great Futures Fund
The purpose of the University of Washington Tacoma and the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound (BGCSPS) Great Futures Fund is to provide financial support and practical work experience for UW Tacoma's students as they serve as mentors to under-served youth in the nine (9) branch clubs associated with the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound.
The UWT-BGCSPS Great Futures Fund has two (2) distinct programs, the Great Futures Scholarship and the Great Futures Public Service Internship. The Great Futures Scholarship will launch in fall 2012, while the Great Futures Public Service Internship program will be implemented for the 2013-2014 academic year.
Great Futures Internship Program
The purpose of the Great Futures Internship program is to provide opportunities for UW Tacoma students to perform public service with a BGCSPS branch up to 20 hours per week. This paid internship shall provide UW Tacoma students with meaningful experiences in BGCSPS's programs and operations. The internships will be awarded on a quarterly basis, subject to renewal, with a preference given to students who have received a Great Futures Scholarship or who have previously been awarded a Great Futures Internship. Additional information about internship program will be released in October 2012 through the Office of Student Affairs at UW Tacoma.
2012-2013 Intern Application Process
UW Tacoma and the BGCSPS are currently accepting applications for multiple interns for the 2012-2013 academic year. To apply please review the Great Futures Intern Program
description and submit a cover letter of interest, resume and 3 current references electronically to tcareer@uw.edu. Applications received by September 17, 2012 will receive priority consideration. Intern positions will begin on October 8, 2012.
Great Futures Scholarship
The purpose of the scholarship will be to cover tuition and standard student fees for each scholarship recipient for one academic year at UW Tacoma. The scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis for incoming freshmen. Recipients of the Great Futures Scholarship will meet the following criteria:
- Enroll at UW Tacoma after graduation from high school;
- Be named as a Club Youth of the Year recipient by a local branch of BGCSPS or a qualified BGCSPS club member who meets Club Youth of the Year standards;
- Meet additional eligibility criteria as determined for admission to UW Tacoma:
- Complete UW Tacoma Freshman Application by April 1, 2012
- Submit completed FAFSA to UW Tacoma by April 1, 2012
- Complete scholarship acceptance agreement by June 1, 2012
- Submit Enrollment Confirmation Fee by June 1, 2012
UW Tacoma and BGCSPS will select scholarship recipients from a list of qualified candidates by April 15th; notification will be received shortly after April 15th. In order to qualify for scholarship, please complete UW Tacoma Freshman Application and the FAFSA by published deadlines and notify your BGCSPS Club Director of your interest.
