    Positive change begins at home. So when Dee Williams decided to change her life, that's right where she started. Four years ago, she sold her BIG house, got rid of most of her stuff, and moved into a teeny, tiny eco-cabin. She now lives in a house that is roughly the size of a parking spot.

    Best Loved Baby offers support and sells products that support healthy parenting choices. Products include organic bedding, clothing and cloth diapers, and natural toys for children. Best Loved Baby also teaches classes about the benefits of healthy choices.

    A development design and build company serving Pierce and Thurston Counties; dedicated to Built Green certification standards.

    Pierce County Public Works & Utilities has started making a fertilizer at the wastewater treatment plant. SoundGRO is a naturally organic fertilizer that is safe for the environment and closes the loop in recycling.

  • Pierce County Solid Waste Division
    The Solid Waste Management Division provide Pierce County residents with efficient waste reduction, recycling, disposal and household hazardous waste management systems which protect public health and safety and the natural human environment of Pierce County.

  • Pierce County Solid Waste Division: Earthy Conversations
    Partnership between Chambers Creek Foundation and Pierce County Solid Waste aimed at creating environmental education opportunities at the Chambers Cr. Properties in University Place through appreciative inquiry and youth involvement.

  • Fort Lewis Public Works - Environmental Division
    Fort Lewis is an 86,000 acre Army installation that supports 28,000 military, 56,000 family members of active duty military, 127,000 retirees, and 10,000 civilians. Our Installation Sustainability Program was established in 2002 with 12 aggressive 25 year goals. Since that time, we have brought many new innovations to the installation and Fort Lewis has earned the reputation as one of the leading examples of sustainability among Army installations.

  • Audubon Washington
    Audubon works to protect our great natural heritage of birds, other wildlife, and their habitat

  • Pierce County Shellfish Partners
    The Pierce County Shellfish Partners are a consortium of organizations, agencies, and individuals working to protect and enhance shellfish resources and habitat in Pierce County.

    Non-profit solar educational group

  • Northwest Earth Institute
    NWEI inspires people to take responsibility for earth through participation in small group discussion circles. A Portland-based nonprofit, NWEI has active volunteer chapters in Tacoma and Olympia. Efforts in Puget Sound are generously supported by the Russell Family Foundation.

  • Pierce Conservation District and  Stream Team
    The Pierce Conservation District, a non-regulatory division of state government, has been working with Pierce County landowners to help manage natural resources since 1949. Stream Team’s goal has always been to educate and involve Pierce County citizens in stream related issues. Through hands-on involvement and educational efforts, Stream Team helps individuals achieve a sense of stewardship for our local streams, forests, and wildlife.

  • Green Tacoma Partnership and Cascade Land Conservancy
    GTP is a partnership between city agents, non-profits, metro parks, and grassroots groups focused on building a liveable city by protecting, enhancing, and restoring Tacoma's open spaces, parks, and gulches.

  • Washington Native Plant Society/Native Plant Salvage Alliance
    The WNPS promotes the appreciations and conservation of Washington's native plants and their habitats through study, education, and advocacy. The NPSA coordinates the strength of volunteers to did native plants from sites that would be otherwise developed; plants are then donated to habitat restoration projects happening via the Green Tacoma Partnership

  • Nisqually Reach Nature Center
    Nisqually Reach Nature Center (NRNC) is a volunteer-run membership-supported non-profit organization that promotes the understanding, appreciation, and preservation of the Nisqually estuarine ecosystem and its integral role in the local environment, history, and culture through interpretation, education, and research.

  • Pierce Transit
    Pierce Transit is the public transportation agency for Pierce County, providing the community with local and express bus routes, vanpools, rideshare services, and specialized transportation for people with disabilities. Last year, the agency provided more than 14 million passenger trips. Pierce Transit was the country's first public transportation agency to experiment with clean-burning compressed natural gas to fuel its bus fleet.

    Tacoma Wheelmen is the largest and oldest bicycle club in the area. We promote cucling for health and the environment.

    Northwest SEED works to establish a clean, diverse, and affordable Northwest energy system based on the efficient use of renewable resources, with maximum local control and ownership of energy assets. Our community-based energy project contributes to a clean, diverse and affordable energy future.

    The VRI is a research organization performing vehicle design, prototype construction and consulting for government and private industry.

  • Danielle Pierce
    In Fall 2007, Professor Nancy Rottle led a graduate student landscap architecture studio about the growth of UW Tacoma and some future possibilities.
