  1. What is it?

Every year the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) organizes an International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). In order to compete in this contest, colleges around the world will compete in regional contests. Last year, we started a tradition of participating in this competition . Though it was the first attempt, students performed excellently and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

  2. Where is it?

The regional competition will be hosted at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. If we make it to the International Contest, then we will go all the way to Harbin, China.

  3. When is it?

For the regional competition, our team(s) will drive down to Eugene on Friday, November 6th. The competition will be held the next day and we will drive back on Saturday night or Sunday morning. The International Contest will be held in Spring of 2010.

  4. How does the competition work?

Teams of three programmers will attempt to solve at least 8 problems within 5 hours. No electronic references can be used (no internet, no pda's, no cellphones, no thumbdrives, no calculators,...); however, the team(s) can bring reference books or any other printed documentation that will help them. That includes printed code!

  5. How do I enter the regional competition?

We will select two teams of three people that will enter the competition; if more than 6 people are interested in competing, we will have a local competition to determine the 6 people that will go to Eugene. We will send our best to win this competition. Also please check your eligibility for competition as per criteria.

  6. What is the UWT competition?

This competition is different because you will enter individually. Do your best because we will only send our best.

  7. How do I enter the UWT competition?

If the local competition is necessary, you will receive instructions about it the week of October 26, 2009.

  8. How do I know if I made it to one of the teams?

    We'll email you!

  9. Do I have to pay?

We have requested a budget that allows us to send two teams to the regional competition. This budget will cover all necessary expenses. The local competition is free to enter.

  10. Will we have a team practice session?

Yes. It is important to know who you're working with and what everyone's strength is. The practice session will be held on Monday, November 2nd.

  11. Where can I find more information?

You can visit the ACM-ICPC website, or the Regional Contest website.
