Bachelors: Advising Overview

Admissions Advising

During the pre-admissions process, admission advisers, recruiters, and evaluators in the Office of Enrollment Services are available to you. There is also an Undergraduate Adviser within the Institute of Technology who can assist you. To meet with the undergraduate adviser, you may either attend an information session, visit with the adviser during walk-in advising or make an appointment. Click here for more information.

Once you are admitted into one of the Institute of Technology's programs, faculty and program advisers will assist you as you matriculate through your academic career at UWT. Student Affairs will continue to support you in your stay at UWT through the many services of the UWT Counseling Center, as well as Financial Aid and Veterans' Affairs.

Academic Advising

Faculty Advisers

All students are assigned a faculty adviser. If you are unsure of who your faculty adviser is, please go to your MyUW account and run a Degree Audit Report (DARS) for your major. Your adviser's name will be listed before the program requirements.

If you wish to change your faculty adviser, you must complete the Request to Change Faculty Adviser form with the new faculty adviser's signature and submit to Pinkerton 2nd floor.

Students are strongly encouraged to visit with their faculty member at least once a year, preferably during the Faculty members Office Hours. Faculty Advisers will assist you with a variety of items:

  • Assist students with academic planning and course selection
  • Clarifying major requirements
  • Planning and tracking progress in the major
  • Evaluating your plan for graduation
  • Mentor and support for TCSS 497 Internships
  • Help develop TCSS 498 Directed Reading and TCSS 499 Directed Research proposals
  • Referrals to other resources (counseling, faculty, etc.)
  • Help you articulate the link with your major and your future goals, including:
    • Pathways to careers
    • Graduate study

Program Academic Advisers provide General Program Advising

Students should visit the general programming advisers if their faculty adviser is not available or has been referred to the general advising office by their faculty adviser. General Programming Advisers will provide the following services:

  • New student advising
  • New student orientation
  • Information about meeting admission deficiencies
  • Completing the paperwork necessary for graduation
  • Referrals to other resources (counseling, faculty, etc.)
