Application Procedure

Once you have decided to apply for admission to the University of Washington Tacoma, there are several application options to choose from based on your student type. Choose your student type from the table listed below and click on the associated link to access the appropriate online application form.

You need only fill out one application form to apply to both the University and the Institute of Technology.


Priority Application Dates:
Quarter Date
Autumn May 15
Winter October 15
Spring January 15

Complete applications received by the Priority Application Date will be assured of a review. Complete applications received after the Priority Application Date will be reviewed on a space-available basis.

Application Steps by Student Type

Transfer Students
  1. Submit the Application for Transfer Admission to UW Tacoma:
    1. Apply on-line secure socket layer (SSL) connection through ApplyWeb
    2. Attach your personal statement to your application (see Personal Statement Guidelines below).
  2. Request an official transcript for all college-level coursework.
  3. High school transcripts are required only if foreign language or intermediate algebra requirements were completed in high school.
Running Start Students (who have completed 40 or more college credits)
  1. Submit the Freshman Application to UW Tacoma:
    1. Apply on-line secure socket layer (SSL) connection through ApplyWeb.
    2. Attach your personal statement to your application (see Personal Statement Guidelines below).
  2. Request an official high school transcript.
  3. Request an official transcript for all college-level coursework.
Current UW Tacoma Students
Returning UW Tacoma Students
  • If you were previously enrolled at UW Tacoma, submit a Returning Student Application in lieu of the Application for Transfer Admission:

While it is not necessary for you to have completed all program prerequisites prior to application, the following links will provide you with a guide to help you plan your coursework and prepare for success in our challenging programs: Computing and Software Systems or Computer Engineering and Systems.

Personal Statement Guidelines

Your personal statement should be no more than 500-650 words and should be entered in the space provided on your UW Tacoma online application. Please tell us why you want to study computer science or engineering and include any other information you would like us to consider.

Your personal statement will be weighted most heavily in our admission decision if:

  1. You do not meet the preferred transfer g.p.a. requirements.
  2. You have had previous academic difficulties.

Please address these issues in your statement and tell us how you plan to overcome these difficulties in your future studies.
