Faculty Research

The areas of academic research and of expertise of the faculty and staff of the Insitute of Technology is diverse, and represents a healthy subset of topics relevent to advancements in technology, to industry, as well as to the experience of our students.

Graduate Student Research

The Computing & Software Systems Master of Science (MS CSS) program has a Capstone experience as part of its curriculum. A capstone experience is one of the most valuable parts of advanced work in computer science. The MS CSS program provides a fully supportive environment for students who want to take advantage of this opportunity. Various faculty have innovative research programs in which students may find challenging and rewarding subjects for a capstone project.

Graduate students can choose to complete a capstone thesis or project.

Project

A student defined software project under supervision of a faculty member. Students develop a proposal and implement a real-world project, presenting their results in a public colloquium. Projects involve significant research and students are encouraged to write publishable papers covering their work.

Thesis

Students interested in more theoretical research and a desire to further their education in the future, are encouraged to choose this option. A thesis develops an important research question and provides an in-depth background to the problem being addressed. It also points to approaches to solving the problem. A thesis is excellent preparation for pursuit of a doctorate degree.
