Minutes from the April 15, 2004 General Meeting

• The task force reports directly to the Chancellor and is co-chaired by both a faculty member and a staff member.  The committee is comprised of equal staff and faculty, and two students, for a two-year term, and is appointed by the Chancellor.
• The task force promotes diversity across the campus.
• The task force deals with controversial issues in the classroom, cross-gender issues, and other issues of a diverse nature.
• Marcie Lazarri and Steve Smith are Co-Directors for Diversity and Minority Affairs.
• The first “Diversity Institute” event was held at UWT.  The past two years it was held at Pacific Lutheran University.
• A “Statement of Commitment to Diversity” was created.
• Tyler Budge and Beverly Naidus are exploring the possibility of creating sculptures on diversity.

• The UW Tacoma Art Committee is the official body on deciding what artwork is purchased and how it is displayed at UWT.
• Both staff and faculty are members of the committee.
• Through the Washington State Arts Commission, UWT has $100,000 to spend this year on artwork.
• You will find artwork displayed outside, at the north end corner of the Keystone Building.  This artwork includes cement blocks and a cement suitcase.  Other artwork includes the “Gather” sign on the GWP building, the “Pallet” by the grand staircase in the GWP building, “Four Elements” in the Science building, as well as some posters located in Student Affairs.

Per Beckie Etheridge, budget updates were discussed at the last All Directors Meeting.

Communication Survey results discussion will be held off for a future meeting.
