Minutes from the April 21, 2005 General Meeting

Joe Chynoweth introduced Chancellor Patricia Spakes.

Patricia Spakes said that she was very pleased to be at the UWTSA potluck lunch.  She went on to say that on April 22, a three-page document will be sent out to the campus community regarding the planning process and what it would look like.  Both Pat and Bob Jackson are part of the selection committee process.  She encouraged staff to nominate themselves or someone else for various committees.

Joe asked that all new employees introduce themselves.

Nan West informed us that Commencement would begin at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, June 10 at the Puyallup Fairgrounds, and that Bobbe Miller-Murray will be asking for volunteers.

Julie Buffington reported on the Professional Development Task Force (PDTF).  The PDTF will continue their Staff Box Talks.  They’re hoping to have another Staff Game Day in June.  She also thanked the PDTF committee members for their hard work.  She also asked that staff participate in a brief survey about the box talks.

Jill Carnell Danseco introduced the new Staff Newsletter, which features a staff member in each issue.  She asked that folks send her news from their prospective departments, so that it can be included in the newsletter.

Jessica Roshan was contacted by the Washington State Employees Credit Union, and was provided with packets of membership information.  If anyone is interested in membership with WSECU, please contact Jessica.

The UWTSA Annual Barbeque is scheduled for Wednesday, July 27 (time will be provided at a later date), which is part of the Staff Appreciation Wednesday’s in July events. Volunteers are needed to assist with this event.

Tim Bostelle was in contact with Joe Chynoweth regarding three focus groups needed for the library system’s 2005-2010 strategic plan. More information about the focus groups is forthcoming.

Crystal Perrine asked for volunteers to mentor new employees.

Naarah McDonald talked about staff donations to the UWTSA.  We are too small to do payroll deductions, but we can do staff donation cards.  With these donations, the UWTSA can provide staff with more events.  As it stands now, the only money that comes in to the UWTSA is from our Annual Barbeque.

Joe acknowledged this year’s Distinguished Service Award winners:  Jessica Roshan and Kim Davenport.  Nan also noted that all DSA winners are still working at UWT.

Lauren Harris is a new employee and reported that she is enjoying the mentoring she is receiving from Carolyn Maxson and Nan West.

The next general meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 21, at 11:00 a.m., in the Tacoma Room.
