Minutes from the May 20, 2004 General Meeting
Randi Shapiro, Work/Life Manager, UW Seattle, spoke about work/life offerings at the University of Washington as follows:
- UW Carelink (Employee Assistance Program) offers assistance to university employees, their household members, and dependent children. EAP services are provided for a variety issues, such as, stress/anxiety, parenting, finances, child/eldercare, workplace, abuse, alcohol/drugs, and legal.
- Work/Life services also offers:
- On-Site Childcare – on site at the Seattle Campus
- Nanny Share Network
- Sick Childcare – Tender Loving Care program at Virginia Mason Medical Center
- Lactation Stations – on site at the Seattle Campus
- Education Seminars – free lunchtime seminars. These seminars are available on video.
- Dependent Care Assistance Program
- Eldercare
- Work/Life Resource Center
- Caregiver Directory – provides faculty, staff, and students access to a pool of students and staff who are interested in part-time caregiving work.
- Flexible Scheduling
- The Work/Life Resource Center provides informational publications and videos.
- You can schedule a meeting with the folks at Work/Life tailored to your departments needs.
- Work/Life at UWS is very interested in hearing any needs that we have at the Tacoma campus. Please forward any ideas to the Staff Association and Linda Spence-Noyer.
Linda Spence-Noyer shared the following information:
- Once a month, attends the Work/Life Advisory Committee Meeting in Seattle.
- Located a space in the Mattress Factory for lactation stations. Funds need to be raised for the purchase of equipment.
- There is a lot of interest on campus regarding adult care. A lunchbox talk with Charley Emlet, and others, was scheduled for Tuesday, May 25th.
- A possible work/life survey will be done for faculty and staff.
