Minutes from the October 20, 2005 General Meeting
Officer Reports –
- Naarah McDonald
- The UWTSA made a $100 profit from the Taste of UWT.
- The UWTSA had enough donations for the Hunger Walk t-shirts, that the cost was offset by about half.
- The UWTSA checking account has twice as much in it as it did last year at the same time, with a balance of $733.
- Just a reminder that donations are always accepted in support of the staff association.
- Crystal Perrine
- The following are new employees that joined UWT since August 2005:
- Jessica Richardson
- Shanna Kinzel
- Donna Plummer
- Danette Rogers
- Kara Gardner
- Kate Cohn
- Megan Watson
- Zac Templeton
- Sandra Sarr
- Chris Rials

- Julie Buffington, Professional Development Task Force, reported on the Staff Box Talks as follows:
- On Wednesday, October 26, from 12:00-1:00, Brian Anderson will be giving a Staff Box Talk about publications.
- Coming this November, Jill Carnell will do a “writing tips” workshop.
- Later on in the year, we’re hoping to have Michael Sullivan do a presentation on museum exhibits.
- Jessica Roshan’s wrap-up on projects:
- Taste of UWT – Glenna Chang put on a great event. The staff association participated in this event by selling hot dogs and beverages. They were later asked, “why couldn’t you have done this at lunchtime as well?”
- Hunger Walk – the t-shirts were a huge hit. The UWT community brought in about $21,000 worth of food.
- Joe Chynoweth offered a special thanks to Jessica for her tireless efforts with regard to these projects.
- Jill Carnell reported on the elections process:
- Nominations will begin in early November for the following UWTSA board positions:
- Co-Chair (Joe Chynoweth’s term ending)
- Secretary (Noreen Slease’s term ending)
- Mentoring Chair (Crystal Perrine’s term ending)
- Please check with a person prior to nominating them for a position.
- Voting will begin in December.
- Jessica is talking to campus folks about having a Silent Auction. As of this moment, nothing has been planned. As soon as she hears something, she will send an email notifying everyone.
- Jill announced that the staff newsletters are now on-line, and asked if anyone had a person that they would like profiled in the staff profile, to contact her.
- This year’s Service Project:
- Adopt one family each, from 11 or so different high schools, which are feeder schools for this area. Maybe speak to high school counselors.
- Caroline Calvillo suggested that liaisons from UWT speak with counselors at their alma maters.
- Dannah Madden suggested that the families come to UWT, instead of us going to them. The only problem might be how the gifts get transported to their homes.
- Naarah McDonald will be getting a group of folks together to work out details.
- Deana Holmes suggested having the service project coincide with the Tree of Hope on campus lighting event sponsored by the Social Work students.
- Jessica talked about a database class that may be given during the day, so that staff could attend. This class may be very useful in our daily work lives, and would be tuition exempt.
