New UWT Help Desk

If you need any assistance in using technology, you can visit the new IT helpdesk located in CP-005. In addition to walk-in service, we provide immediate helps to UWT people through phone call, instant message, email and the campus web based helpdesk system. Through the web help desk environment, you will be able to search knowledge bases and submit requests online or via email. You will receive confirmation emails as your requests are processed through the system.

New Wireless Networks

Wireless network access is available indoors in each and every campus building. WLAN connectivity in these buildings is funded by Student Technology Fees (with the exception of the Pinkerton building). We have started the installation of the outdoor wireless network in selected areas. It covers the Gillenwater Plaza, flag pole area and the grand staircase of the campus. UWT students can check out wireless laptop computers from the Library front desk to use anywhere in the Library; as well as from the Open Labs in WG-108 and CP-005 Front desks to use anywhere on campus.

Our aim is to provide ubiquitous wireless network for the entire campus by the end of this academic year.

Technology Trials

  • The Collaborative Learning Classroom (CP-105): As a pilot project, we have designed and renovated a new classroom funded by the Founders Endowment Grant in 2006. Equipped with nine computers for up to nine small groups of students to collaborate and learn together, we have scheduled in this classroom many instructors interested in teaching with collaborative learning space. Instructors have full control of the student group PC and can present two separate displays onto two projection screens.
  • The Clicker Trial: Nursing faculty will use the student response system (i.e. clickers) in some of their classes this academic year.
  • The Turn It In Trial: We have begun the Turn It In trial with several classes in Spring and will continue with this trial throughout the Fall quarter. This is a plagiarism detection server for the instructors to ask their students to submit their written assignments to.
  • We have also completed several technology trials successfully in the past few years, including MDID, PDA and Dell DJ.
